Nikita Boone history
Nikita Boone was formed out of the ashes of two sort-of competing bands that "found each other" as a result of their mutual love of The Who. Myke and Bob had of course been in the Lyzzerds/Culture, while Vic and Jay Greenfield had been in a succession of bands since their teens. These included The Cytes and The Bruce.
The Bruce (nothing to do with The Boss) was considered a scary competitor to The Culture and The Sky, because they were almost exclusively a Who cover band, and were really good at it. They even had the gear to go with their obsession: HiWatt amps and SG guitar. The Bruce members included Jay (guitar), Vic (drums) , and Vic's cousin Jim Sarokin on bass and lead vocals. Perhaps they will build a The Bruce website to chronicle their detailed history and exploits...
The Culture and The Sky were, sorry guys, more eclectic bands, playing everything from the Who to the Hollies, Motown and Moby Grape, even Sopwith Camel b-sides. Jay actually remarked on this at one of the first BS5 reunion jams in Denville, staring in wonder as we recited tunes that we used-to-do-still-oughta-do, and saying: "You guys actually used to play ALL that stuff?!?"

(l>r) Billy Schwab, very good drummer but couldn't 'get' Keith Moon which is why Jimmy and Jay split The Cytes and got me;
Jay G., always great, always on the money (and on time!);
Cousin Jim, lead singing here (In The Bruce he sang lead AND played bass);
Danny Weiss, rhythm guitar, a fine player, fine singer, great sense of humor too. Currently does wedding gigs with Funcheon and wife Rachel;
Craig Miller, Bass guitar, he wasn't much of a musician but his brother knew Dino Dinelli personally. (caption by Vic, photo from Jim Sarokin) |
